The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining various types of heavy machinery to support construction, excavation, and site development projects. This role requires precision, strong situational awareness, and a commitment to safety. The
ideal candidate is experienced, reliable, and capable of working efficiently in fast-paced and physically demanding environments.
Job Duties
– Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, skid steers, graders, and backhoes
– Perform site preparation including grading, trenching, digging, and material movement
– Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and project specifications
– Conduct pre- and post-operation equipment inspections
– Perform routine maintenance and report mechanical issues
– Work closely with supervisors, laborers, and site crews to complete projects efficiently
– Ensure proper handling and placement of materials
– Maintain clean and organized job sites
– Follow all safety procedures and regulations at all times
– Complete assigned tasks within project timelines
Job Requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
– Minimum 2+ years of heavy equipment operation experience (verifiable required)
– Proficiency operating one or more types of equipment (excavator, loader, dozer, etc.)
– Ability to read grade stakes, blueprints, and site plans
– Strong understanding of job site safety and hazard awareness
– Experience working in construction, excavation, or similar environments
– Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in physically demanding conditions
– Strong hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
– Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
– Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required
Preferred Qualifications
– CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
– OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification
– Experience with GPS/laser grading systems
– Experience operating multiple types of equipment
– Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting equipment
Safety & Work Environment
– Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
– Exposure to dust, noise, and uneven terrain
– Must wear PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe boots, gloves, etc.)
– High focus on safety due to proximity to personnel and equipment
– Must follow OSHA and company safety guidelines at all times
