Advanced Employment Services is hiring an experienced Industrial Painter/Sandblaster for a growing metal fabrication and manufacturing facility in Laurel, Montana. This position plays a critical role in preparing fabricated steel products for final delivery by ensuring surfaces are properly cleaned, blasted, primed, and painted to meet quality and durability standards.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in industrial painting or sandblasting, possess a strong attention to detail, and take pride in producing high-quality work in a fast-paced shop environment. Experience working with structural steel, fabricated metal products, or heavy industrial equipment is highly preferred.

Job Duties

As an Industrial Painter/Sandblaster, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
– Prepare fabricated steel and metal products for painting by cleaning, grinding, sanding, masking, and inspecting surfaces.
– Operate abrasive blasting equipment to remove rust, mill scale, old coatings, and contaminants from steel components.
– Select and use appropriate blasting media based on project specifications.
– Mix paints, primers, hardeners, and industrial coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
– Apply industrial primers, epoxies, urethanes, enamels, and specialty coatings using airless, conventional, and HVLP spray equipment.
– Ensure proper coating thickness, adhesion, and overall finish quality.
– Inspect completed work for defects such as runs, holidays, pinholes, uneven coverage, or contamination.
– Perform touch-up work and recoat areas as necessary.
– Read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and paint specifications.
– Safely move materials throughout the shop using forklifts, overhead cranes, carts, or other material-handling equipment (training may be provided).
– Maintain spray guns, blast pots, hoses, compressors, paint booths, and related equipment.
– Monitor inventory of paint, blasting media, solvents, and shop supplies.
– Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
– Follow OSHA regulations and all company safety policies regarding hazardous materials, ventilation, respirator use, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
– Work closely with welders, fabricators, machinists, and production personnel to meet production schedules and quality expectations.
– Assist in other production or shop duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

– Previous experience as an Industrial Painter, Sandblaster, Powder Coater, or Industrial Coating Technician preferred.
– Experience working in steel fabrication, manufacturing, heavy equipment, mining, construction, or industrial environments is highly desirable.
– Knowledge of surface preparation techniques and industrial coating systems.
– Experience operating industrial spray equipment and abrasive blasting equipment.
– Ability to identify coating defects and make necessary corrections.
– Basic understanding of paint mixing ratios, cure times, and application methods.
– Ability to read tape measures and follow detailed work instructions.
– Mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely operate shop equipment.
– Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
– Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
– Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.

Physical Requirements:
– Ability to lift up to 75 pounds regularly.
– Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
– Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements while sanding, blasting, and painting.
– Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment.
– Comfortable working around loud equipment, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures while wearing required PPE.
– Ability to safely wear respirators, protective suits, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection for extended periods.

Preferred Skills:
– Forklift certification or experience.
– Overhead crane experience.
– Experience painting structural steel, tanks, piping, trailers, or heavy equipment.
– Familiarity with epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich primers, and other industrial coating systems.
– OSHA safety training is a plus.
