Advanced Employment Services is seeking a dependable and hardworking Groundsman / Tree Service Laborer to join a professional tree care company serving residential and commercial customers throughout the Billings area. This is a physically demanding, outdoor position that plays a vital role in supporting tree removals, tree trimming, pruning, stump grinding, and emergency tree services. The company prides itself on being safety-focused rather than production-focused, ensuring every job is completed safely, efficiently, and with exceptional customer service.
The Groundsman works directly alongside climbers and equipment operators to keep job sites safe, organized, and productive. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, isn’t afraid of hard work, and wants to build a long-term career in the tree care industry.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and preferably a clean driving record to meet insurance requirements for operating company vehicles and pulling equipment trailers.
Job Duties
Tree Service Support
– Assist climbers and arborists during tree removals, pruning, trimming, and maintenance.
– Safely lower limbs and branches using ropes and rigging systems under the direction of the climber.
– Feed brush and limbs into wood chippers while maintaining safe operating procedures.
– Cut, stack, and remove logs, limbs, and brush from job sites.
– Assist with hazardous tree removals and storm damage cleanup.
– Help with stump grinding operations.
– Maintain safe work zones around pedestrians, vehicles, homes, and power lines.
– Perform thorough cleanup after each project, leaving properties neat and debris-free.
Equipment Operation
– Safely operate and maintain equipment including:
– Chainsaws
– Pole saws
– Wood chippers
– Stump grinders
– Backpack blowers
– Hedge trimmers
– Chains
– Ropes and rigging equipment
– Hand tools
– Axes
– Rakes
– Shovels
– Wheelbarrows
– Experience operating or willingness to learn:
– Skid steers
– Mini skid steers
– Utility trailers
– Brush trailers
– Log splitters
Vehicle & Trailer Responsibilities
– Drive company trucks to and from job sites when authorized.
– Safely pull brush trailers, equipment trailers, and chippers.
– Perform daily vehicle and trailer inspections.
– Secure equipment and loads before transport.
– Maintain clean company vehicles and trailers.
– Report maintenance or mechanical concerns immediately.
– A clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is strongly preferred, as this position may require operating company vehicles and towing trailers.
General Labor
– Load and unload equipment, logs, brush, and materials.
– Lift, carry, drag, and move heavy tree limbs and logs throughout the workday.
– Fuel, clean, sharpen, and maintain chainsaws and equipment.
– Assist with routine maintenance of company tools and machinery.
– Keep trucks, trailers, and equipment organized and job-site ready.
– Follow OSHA standards and all company safety procedures.
– Assist with additional outdoor labor and tree care projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
Previous tree service, landscaping, forestry, construction, or heavy outdoor labor experience preferred but not required.
– Experience operating chainsaws and outdoor power equipment is a plus.
– Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and falling limbs.
– Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
– Dependable attendance and punctuality.
– Positive attitude with the ability to work well as part of a team.
– Ability to follow verbal instructions and prioritize safety at all times.
Physical Requirements
– This is a physically demanding position requiring the ability to:
– Lift 75 pounds or more on a regular basis.
– Drag and carry heavy logs, brush, tree limbs, and equipment.
– Stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and work on uneven terrain throughout the day.
– Perform repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, and manual labor.
– Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow.
– Safely work around chainsaws, wood chippers, heavy equipment, and moving vehicles.
Requirements
– Valid driver’s license (required).
